The following is an excerpt from the daily log for Hawk Creek’s Executive Director, Loretta Jones. We will be sharing these excerpts in this blog to share the unique experience of traveling to Somaliland to help Cheetah Conservation Fund, stay tuned!

6 Weeks Out, HCWC

Tanya is going to kill me! I just got off the phone with Jarod. He met Dr Laurie Marker from the Cheetah Conservation Fund-he just got through discussing sand cats, HCWC, and cheetahs with Dr. Marker when he asked Dr. Marker what can we do to help the cheetahs? “Come to Somaliland, ASAP!!!” Jarod called to see if I wanted to go with him and I didn’t hesitate to say, “Absolutely!” Tanya and the rest of the team will have to run the Center for a month while Jarod and I help take care of over 40 cheetah kittens that were rescued by the government. They were being smuggled across Somaliland and into the Middle East. The cheetahs are being held in a temporary site, in temporary cages with limited resources.
Now to deal with the logistics, we have six weeks to pull this off, along with running the wildlife center, 3 major holidays, 3 birthdays and 2 business trips already planned before I go…. We can do this. It’s the right thing to do.

Loretta has dedicated her life to conserving wildlife. Cheetahs have always held a special place in her heart so she did not hesitate to say “yes” when she was asked to help CCF.
